Silver-spotted Skipper Hesperia comma

ab. suffusa Tutt 1906

The ground colour is suffused with fuscous, the fulvous being restricted to the angulated row of spots and the discal cell of the forewings, and the discal spot and transverse row of the hindwings.

I am not sure if I have this one correctly named, but it appears to fit Tutt's description.

Here is shown the male recto surface, the verso is also illustrated.

This is a transitional form approaching ab. dupuyi described as follows:

On the underside of the hindwings the silver spots of the outer row are reduced to the three top ones, with an indistinct fourth spot. The lower ones are obsolete.

On the male specimen shown there is actually a very small fifth spot.

This is a transitional form approaching ab. dupuyi described as follows:

On the underside of the hindwings the silver spots of the outer row are reduced to the three top ones, with an indistinct fourth spot. The lower ones are obsolete.

On the female specimen shown there is actually a very small fifth spot.

ab. conflua Tutt 1906

Not a very good specimen but it does show the characteristics for this named aberration.

The outer white spots on the underside united into a large zig zag mark.

An interesting male variation, with much enlarged hindwing spots. Not joined enough to make Tutt's description of ab. juncta.
