The band on the margin of both wings is much deepened in colour, the greyish pattern towards the base is paler than usual, though still clear and sharp.

The ground colour of the rest of the wings in both sexes ranges from pale buff to cream-white.

The original description by Stauder is of little use, as it merely refers to a darker form from Southern Calabria.

Lempke uses the name tentatively for a very dark female with black-brown ground colour on the upperside with strongly reduced light markings. The fulvous band on the forewing is broadly interrupted and that on the hindwing only consists of the wedge shaped marginal spots.
